Restoration of a Cycladic House

Our craftsmen worked on a very interesting project in the Cyclades, for the restoration of a traditional Cycladic house, using old techniques and materials. We participated in the restoration of the ceilings (horizontal terraces), the floors and the walls.

All the old beams that were damaged were removed from the ceilings, reeds were installed and then the ceiling was layered, using the traditional materials of the area, lime and pumice.

In all stages of restoration, local pumice was used, which has pozzolanic substances, as the main inert material along with lime.

The plastering of the bathrooms was done with lime mortar with pumice in various grain sizes. Both the bathroom floors and the shower areas are made of pressed lime plaster with light mortar, to ensure waterproofing.

The floors of the rest of the house were also made of pressed lime plaster.
